Building a Stronger Community Through Friendship and Service

OUR GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
  • Develop and implement activities that provide opportunities for chapter members to experience friendship as a deep belief and value of The Links.

    • Highlight alumnae members at the Chapter’s friendship meeting Host one or more social events for chapter members and Connecting Links Incorporate activities into Chapter meetings that will enable members to learn more about each other on a persona and professional level
    • Utilize the Heir-O-Links committee to forge a closer connection among Heir-O-Links and provide opportunities for chapter members to interact with Heir-O-Links,
  • Coordinate and streamline The ARTS, ITS, NTS and STY program facets to focus on the needs of the African American Academy (AAA) as part of the Chapter’s “Adopt-A-School” initiative:

    • Each program committee/facet has one representative to serve on FOAAA
    • Facets identify one umbrella “signature” program focused on AAA
    • Prioritize all programs and desired sources of funding (W&M and/or Grants)
  • Identify other programs or sponsorships that benefit elder care in the wider African American community in Seattle/King County:

    • Offer grants-in-aid to other community-based organizations or nonprofits
    • Team-up with other organizations or facets to sponsor a program on elder care
  • Coordinate and broaden the Chapter’s fundraising and grant-making capabilities in response to ever-changing economic trends and the Chapter’s desire to operate out of its own building.

    • Continue the work of the Ways and Means Task Force to explore viable alternatives to the current fundraising event, Evening of Enchantment
    • Assess the fund development strategy and process; streamline, if necessary
    • Continue the work of the Facilities Task Force
  • Expand the public’s awareness of the Greater Seattle Chapter’s programs and scholarship awards to enhance fund development:

    • Each program committee/facet has one representative serve on the PR/Communications Committee
    • Upgrade and promote the Chapter’s website
    • Publish and distribute a newsletter to our supporters, local schools, civic groups, potential donors and include a calendar of the Chapter’s programs
    • Conduct an evaluation and review of scholarships presented over the years, as a resource for informing the community about our scholarship program
  • Enhance the internal communications among the Chapter’s membership to create a collaborative atmosphere and new efficiencies

    • Create a Chapter calendar of programs and activities to distribute regularly
    • Include ‘alumna relations’ as a priority activity and identify ways to improve communications
  • Provide training and evaluation measures to assist the Chapter in delivering the facet programs and projects related to the “Adopt-A-School Initiative:”

    • In collaboration with the African American Academy leadership, identify education training that highlights urban youth and family issues
  • Strengthen and improve educational opportunities for our youth.

    • Use our work at the African American Academy as a model for other schools.
