From the inception of The Links Incorporated, the organization has addressed its community service through
its threefold purpose in the areas of educational, civic and intercultural commitment using program facets.
The program facets are Services to Youth, National Trends and International Trends and Services, and the Arts.
In 1958, only twelve years in the evolution of our organization, under the leadership of President Pauline Maloney,
the national assembly adopted the program facet, SERVICES TO YOUTH. The objective of this program facet was to aid
minority youth in America to find and fulfill their intellectual potential.
In 1964, the Links National Assembly embraced a second facet, THE ARTS. This program was launched around the theme
of "Freedom and the Fine Arts" under the leadership of President Helen Edmonds. The objectives of this program facet have historically been
to encourage appreciation of and support for cultural enrichment and the arts.
In 1964 at the 14th National Assembly, the program facet, NATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES was adopted. This facet
also included recognition of the international trust and as this program facet evolved, the chosen priority of
action in National Trends and Services had to meet strict criteria.
In 1978, the program facet, INTERNATIONAL TRENDS AND SERVICES gained full status as a program facet after
having been separated from National Trends. It was established as an Ad Hoc Committee under the administration of National President
Pauline Maloney.
